As head of the Messner Reeves Labor & Employment Practice Group, Mr. Shunk has spent over 20 years providing employment counseling and advocacy to public and private employers and individuals on a wide range of employment-related matters. Mr. Shunk believes in helping companies protect their largest investment: their people.
Mr. Shunk understands that high employee turnover and workplace claims disrupt operations and lower profits. He works closely with employers on a daily basis to find effective solutions to a multitude of employee relations issues. He partners with employers to craft workplace policies, procedures and practices that facilitate productive employee relations and reduce the frequency and severity of claims. Mr. Shunk’s proactive approach ensures that employers stay abreast of the myriad of employment laws, regulations, and case law in an effort to minimize risks and avoid litigation.
Should a dispute arise, Mr. Shunk aggressively focuses on the critical points of a case to act quickly to craft a solution that will minimize exposure and costs and maximize the likelihood of success.
Well experienced in the courtroom, Mr. Shunk has tried over one hundred cases in his career, most to a jury, in both state and federal forums. In addition to his labor and employment law practice, he handles a wide array of civil and commercial litigation matters, and is frequently retained by insurance companies to represent clients in a variety of cases. He also assists clients to resolve disputes in arbitrations and mediations.
