John K. Shunk

Mr. Shunk leads the Messner & Reeves Labor & Employment Practice Group. An experienced litigator, since 1992 a significant portion of his practice has involved providing employment counseling and advocacy to public and private employers and individuals on a wide range of employment-related matters.

When working with his clients, Mr. Shunk takes a proactive approach, ensuring that they stay abreast of the myriad of employment laws, regulations, and case law in an effort to minimize risks and avoid litigation. He works closely with employers on a daily basis to find effective solutions to a multitude of employee relations issues. He also partners with employers to craft workplace policies, procedures and practices that facilitate productive employee relations.

Should a dispute arise, Mr. Shunk aggressively focuses on the critical points of a case to act quickly to craft a solution that will minimize exposure and costs and maximize the likelihood of success.

Since trying his first case one week after he began practicing law, Mr. Shunk has tried over one hundred cases, most to a jury, in both state and federal forums. In addition to his labor and employment law practice, he handles a wide array of civil and commercial litigation matters, and is frequently retained by insurance companies to represent clients in construction defects and property damage cases. He also assists clients to resolve disputes in arbitrations and mediations.
