Messner Reeves LLP Begins 2019 with Six Defense Trial Results, Including Four in One Week

DENVER, CO – February 6, 2019 – With nine office locations nationwide, Messner Reeves LLP litigates cases through trial more than average firms of its size.  Through the first month of 2019, Messner Reeves has celebrated six defense verdicts and one arbitration on behalf of its diverse clientele.

The law firm's success rate was on display the week of January 28 with four defense jury results across CaliforniaColorado, and Nevada. These four cases included:

January 30, 2019 - Paul W. Sande in Los Angeles, CA, secured a dismissal of all claims on behalf of a national automobile insurance company in an aggravated liability case in which the Plaintiff was seeking more than $1M in damages.

January 31, 2019 - Douglas C. Wolanske and Elizabeth K. Salinas-Van Orman in Denver, CO received a defense verdict in a Medical Malpractice case on behalf of a general surgeon. The Plaintiff alleged the Defendant was negligent in performing gallbladder surgery asking the jury to reward damages in excess of $800,000. The Jury returned a verdict in favor of the Defendant awarding no damages to the Plaintiff.

February 1, 2019 - attorneys Renee M. Finch and Christine L. Atwood in Las Vegas, NV obtained a complete defense verdict on behalf of a national automobile insurance company after a one-day jury trial in a rear-end personal injury case in which Plaintiff was seeking more than $40,000 in past damages, including $24,000 in past medical bills.

February 1, 2019 - Maia S. Smith in Rancho Cucamonga, California obtained a "Take Nothing" Defense verdict on a Workers' Compensation Trial after one day of testimony on behalf of a multi-tenant residential building owner.

DENVER, CO – October 11, 2018  – Messner Reeves attorneys Bruce A. Montoya and Mark B. Collier prevailed in a seven-day medical negligence trial, receiving a defense verdict on behalf of their client, a podiatrist. The Plaintiff alleged the Defendant was negligent in providing care, asking the jury to reward damages in excess of a million dollars. The Jury returned a verdict in favor of the Defendant awarding no damages to the Plaintiff.

LAS VEGAS, NV – August 24, 2018 – Messner Reeves attorneys Caleb Meyer and Renee Finch obtained a complete defense verdict on behalf of a national automobile insurance company after a five-day jury trial in a personal injury case in which Defendant admitted to liability and the Plaintiff asked the jury to award more than $265,000 in past damages, including $65,000 in past medical bills.

LOS ANGELES, CA – August 23, 2018 – Messner Reeves attorneys Charles C. Cavanagh and Kathleen J. Mowry obtained a complete defense verdict on behalf of a large restaurant chain after a federal court jury trial in an age discrimination action filed by a job applicant.

DENVER, CO – July 30, 2018 – Messner Reeves attorneys Bruce A. Montoya and Kate A. Bailey prevailed in a six-day medical negligence trial, receiving a defense verdict on behalf of their client, a family care physician. The Plaintiff alleged the Defendant was negligent in providing care, asking for $1.9 million in medical expenses and $3.5-$5.5 million in future damages. The Jury returned a verdict within an hour in favor of the Defendant awarding no damages to the Plaintiff.

LAS VEGAS, NV (February 2, 2018) -  Attorneys Caleb Meyer and Michael Nixon of the Las Vegas office obtained a near-unanimous verdict for the defendant in a disputed side-swipe MVA that occurred in the summer of 2014. The case was unsuccessful at arbitration with the arbitrator finding against the defendant and for both plaintiffs in the amount of $16,000 each, but at trial, the jury found that the plaintiffs did not meet burden and returned a defense verdict in less than 30 minutes after a 5-day trial in which the plaintiffs called 5 doctors and 1 alleged eyewitness to testify.

 

LAS VEGAS, NV, June 30, 2017 - Attorneys Caleb Meyer and Renee Finch obtained a complete defense verdict on behalf of a national automobile insurance company after a five-day jury trial in a personal injury case in which Defendant admitted to liability and the Plaintiff asked the jury to award a total of $850,000 in damages, including $160,000 in past medical bills.

DENVER, CO (June 8, 2017) - Attorney Tanner Walls obtains jury verdict in favor of national food brand and manufacturer in lawsuit for contractual indemnification. Following jury verdict, Court awards more than $300,000 in attorney fees and costs in favor of client.

LAS VEGAS, NV (February 23, 2017) - Attorneys Caleb Meyer and Renee Finch obtained a complete defense verdict on behalf of a national automobile insurance company after a ten day jury trial in a personal injury case in which Defendant admitted to liability and the Plaintiff asked the jury to award a total of $4.8 million in damages, including $1.2 million in past medical bills.

On April 16, 2009, after an 8-day trial, an Arapahoe County jury awarded our client North American National Marketing LLC (NANM) a multi-million dollar verdict in a breach of contract lawsuit against General American Life Insurance Company (GenAm), a subsidiary of MetLife.
